6 Thru Hiker Friendly Backpacking Recipes

Today I share with you 6 easy and cheap backpacking recipes that are also thru hiker friendly.

My husband, Jerry and I did a overnight backpacking trip in the Norris Dam State Park. This trip was shortly after I finished my thru hike of the Appalachian Trail and I missed sleeping in my tent.
While out on the hike, I decided to share with you some recipes that work great for not only backpacking but also if you are a thru hiker doing a long distance hike. The ingredients are portal, substantiable, lightweight and inexpensive. Some of the ingredients even use condiments from fast food restaurants.

Pizza to go
1 flour tortilla
1 packet of marinara or pizza sauce
pepperoni slices (use as many or few as you want)
sun dried tomatoes (optional)
1 mozzarella stick (torn into shreds)
1 packet grated parmesan cheese
1 tablespoon Italian seasoning
1 tablespoon Siracha sauce (optional)
1 packet red pepper
Bacon ranch wrap
1 flour tortilla
1 packet precooked chicken
2 - 3 slices bacon jerky
1 mozzarella stick (torn into shreds)
1 packet ranch dressing
The Elvis
1 flour tortilla
1 packet creamy peanut butter
2 slices bacon jerky
dried banana slices
1 packet grape jelly
Cheesy chicken casserole
2 cups boiling water
1 package stuffing mix
1/4 cup dried broccoli
1 package precooked chicken
1 packet Velveeta cheese
1 - 2 tablespoons dried onion
1 cheese cracker (crumbled)
Love me s’mores
1 flour tortilla
1 packet Nutella or Jif Chocolate Silk
1 Hershey's mini bar or chocolate chips
2 large marshmallows (roasted) or several mini marshmallows
1/8 cup crushed graham crackers
White mocha oatmeal
1/2 cup oats
1 packet vanilla Carnation Instant Breakfast
1 packet instant coffee
1 - 1.5 cups boiling water
1 tablespoon honey
1 tablespoons macadamia nuts
1 tablespoons unsweetened dried coconut
1 tablespoon white chocolate chips
